3 Tips for Beginner Photographers

Updated: May 30, 2020

Photography is an amazing creative outlet that allows you to look at the beautiful world around you with a brand new perspective. When I first picked up my camera, it felt like the world opened up and there were SO many things I wanted to take photos of! There are so many things I've learned in my photography journey (yes, I realize how cheesy that sounds), and these are the 3 tips I'd give anyone who wants to explore the world through a lens.

1. Practice, Practice Practice!

Photography, like any other skill, can be compared to a muscle! The more you work it out, the stronger (and better looking) it gets. Practice using your camera so that you can use your gear appropriately in all sorts of situations. Practicing will allow you to learn how to handle your camera in manual, and you'll become a complete photography pro! But in all seriousness, if you want to make the most of each image you take, know how to use your gear properly.

2. Find Your Own Unique Style

With so many talented photographers out there, it can be easy to fall in love with the way someone else looks at the world through their lens. So, take some time to explore what angles, editing style, and category of photography makes you feel alive. Then go for it!

3. Stay Inspired

As you get better and take on more clients, it can be easy to get caught up in the work side of photography and forget the creative side! Regularly put together creative shoots where you can explore new styles, new poses, and maybe even just meet some new people! Keep things fun, and you'll stay inspired.
